Over 100 people enjoyed the Canada 150 celebration at Rural 60 Plus on Saturday, September 9. The weather cooperated so that visitors could take advantage of the outdoor venue, including a BBQ, a display by the Thunder Bay Vintage Sports Car Club, and entertainment by Crystal River, the trio of Eldon and Donna Kangas and Irvin Heney. Many thanks to MPP Bill Mauro for attending and to the Government of Ontario for funding the event.
Pictured above are Lloyd Hanton, President of Rural 60+, Diane Buchan, Susan MacMaster, MPP Bill Mauro, Sharon Corrigan, and Tina Guzzell. These ladies formed the organizing committee.
Indoor displays were also popular featuring many of the activities that take place at the Centre. Several lucky guests received attendance gifts:
Tony Gillies—placemats donated by the Loom Room
Marie Munn—placemats and potholders donated by the quilters
Darlene VanVeller—a carving donated by the carvers
Lorna Krieg—a bowl donated by the Craft Room
Enid Alderdice—a quilt donated by Anita Glavish for the oldest visitor
Marilyn Dingemanse—a jar of over 1000 jelly beans for closest guess of the quantity
A huge thank you also goes out to the many people who made this event such a success—the organizing committee, the volunteers, the ladies who baked desserts, Sharon Hagstrom for the use of her tent, and O’Connor Township for the loan of their tables and chairs. We couldn’t have done it without you. Here are just a few of the many photos taken during the celebration.
