VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

Hello Everyone

Yesterday we had an incident in the craft room and it illustrates why we must have two people in the Craft Room at all times. (Actually and frankly, this applies to any room where people are working at Rural 60 Plus.)

One of our members was in the Craft Room and they had a low blood pressure incident, passed out and fell to the floor, bumping their head. Luckily, I was walking by the Craft Room and heard a noise that was different and I went into the room and found this individual on the floor; this was less then a minute after hearing the noise. I first checked to see if they were breathing and their airway was clear and then immediately called 911.

Superior North EMS had to send an ambulance from town as their first response unit out here was already tied up, so it took 20 to 30 minutes before any help arrived.

I was on the phone with 911 answering their questions as best as I could and we called their family to let them know what happened and they told us what to do to help the person.

Our member went to the hospital and was checked out.

I spoke with our member this morning and all the tests were good; no lasting effects from passing out or from falling other than a goose egg on the back of their head. This is something that has happened to this person before, but they told me that this was by far the worst.

Let me tell you it scared the heck out of everyone that was here yesterday.

There are lots of people here on Monday’s and Wednesday’s so there are people in the Craft Room, but for the rest of the week there is sometimes no one in there. So, if you can, please come on a Monday or Wednesday to do your work. If this isn’t possible for you, then please check to see if there is anyone else going to be there the other days of the week or if possible bring someone with you to keep a watch.

We are all Seniors and should have enough sense to realize that this could happened to any of us at any time and if you are by yourself, you may not be found for hours.

Please – buddy up!
